Little Italy: Filippi’s Pizza Grotto
A few weeks ago, SK’s friend from the east coast came to San Diego to visit, so SK wanted to have dinner. Originally we were going to go to somewhere in downtown San Diego, but since it was a Friday night we thought it might be too busy, so we went to Little Italy instead. Luckily, we were able to find parking pretty easily. We walked around trying to find a restaurant since none of us were too familiar with the area, and eventually decided on Filippi’s Pizza Grotto since Hannah said her friends suggested the place. There was relatively long line, and we waited for about 20-30 minutes to get seated. While waiting, you get to look around the shop, and they sold some pretty interesting things (a lot of cheese, sausage, pasta, etc.). We ordered some pasta and a pizza to share between five people, and it was way more than enough.
We ordered The Works pizza which had cheese, sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, and choice of anchovie or onion (we picked onion). Hannah and I also ordered a combination plate which gave you a choice of two between ravioli, lasagna, and spaghetti with meatball or sausage for additional charge. Hannah and I chose cheese ravioli and lasagna with both meatball and sausage, which turned out really delicious. Apparently they make their own meatballs and sausages. I think this place is worth a try if you’re in Little Italy!
